MAB inauguration – Cultural Art Center – Bari Sardo

The Municipality of Bari Sardo now has its own exhibition space: the MAB, Centro Culturale d’Arte, will be inaugurated next Saturday, June 15, at 6 PM, in conjunction with the Cortes Apertas event.

The MAB project was made possible by the initiative of the municipal administration, Mayor Ivan Mameli, Deputy Mayor Fabiana Casu, and Cultural Councillor Maria Francesca Uda, who, together with the cultural association EIA Factory—who won the tender for managing the space—have brought this project to life. The aim is to enhance contemporary art and pay tribute to two artists closely associated with Bari Sardo, having spent a significant part of their careers there: the Peruvian Jorge Eduardo Eielson, on the centenary of his birth, and Michele Mulas, originally from the Ogliastra region.

Located in Vico III Trento, in the historic center of the town, the ancient building hosting the cultural center underwent restoration, completed in November 2023, and is set to become a vibrant hub for artistic creativity in the realm of Fiber Art, an area in which Eielson was an international exponent. The inaugural exhibition of the MAB in Bari Sardo, titled *INTRICATO: Contemporary Bonds and Interweavings*, curated by Caterina Ghisu and Nicoletta Zonchello, with overall coordination by Marco Ramberti, features prominent figures in Fiber Art from the international scene: Cenzo Cocca, Nietta Condemi De Felice, Tiziana Contu, Maria Grazia Medda, Mabi Sanna, Franca Sonnino, Paulina Herrera Letelier, and Carolina Melis, the latter in collaboration with the Mariantonia Urru workshop in Samugheo.

Mayor Ivan Mameli, Deputy Mayor Fabiana Casu, and Cultural Councillor Maria Francesca Uda, along with the entire Municipal Administration, have emphasized the importance of opening an exhibition cultural center in the social and cultural fabric of Bari Sardo, committing to promoting the exhibition inaugurated on Saturday, June 15, along with future projects outlined by the President of the EIA Factory Association and Artistic Director of the MAB, Nicoletta Zonchello, General Coordinator Marco Ramberti, and Curator Caterina Ghisu, with the hope of ensuring its long-term sustainability, also thanks to the MAB’s inclusion in a network of local and national small museums and cultural itineraries.
